CELEBRATE
JOHN DEWEY DAY! At the Fletcher
Free Library
see
map
Saturday, October 23rd 10-2pm, 2010
FRANK GONZALEZ, artist and educator, will lead a Maskmaking workshop
for all ages at the Fletcher Free Library. This workshop will celebrate
Burlington's 13th commemoration of John Dewey's Birthday, October
20, 1859. In 1996, The Burlington City Council passed a resolution
officially recognizing John Dewey Day. John Dewey, world renown philosopher
and educator, was born and grew up in Burlington, Vermont. Dewey believed
experience-based learning to be the foundation for creative education
and fostered an attitude of respect for the unique differences found
in every child.
CHILDREN AND FAMILIES! Come and celebrate the creative spirit of John
Dewey in a "hands-on" workshop where everyone will make Halloween
masks and hats from recycled materials. Bring a bag lunch. At 12:30
pm participants will put on their masks and a "Quica" Band will join
the celebration in a parade from the Library to the top of Church
Street, ending at City Hall Park at 2:00 pm.
